Okay its not THE Pond - as some call the ocean. And it is not just A Pond - as in smaller than a lake. It is a lake! I enjoy living on it and spending time on my back porch listening to music, gazing at the lake and pondering.

Ways To Get Your Morning Coffee

Morning coffee used to be so simple.

I did not start drinking coffee until I was 28 but I've known people who have been drinking it all my life. My earliest memories of Mom and Dad drinking it was from an old percolator. There was something mesmerising about watching the coffee spurt up into the lid of the coffee maker as it was doing its percolating. Later Joe DiMaggio introduced us to the "Mr. Coffee" which required no perking and you got your coffee much more quickly.

Going into any convenience store or restaurant to get a cup of joe was so easy. Today, it is cappuccino then flavor it with all kinds of syrups to make it a dessert in a cup. What used to have no calories can now supply you with your daily allowance on your way to work. One evening last week we went to a hamburger joint and my cup of black regular old coffee cost me $2.30!! I drank 5 cups to get the average cost per cup down. I was awake all night because of the caffeine and going to the bathroom.

When you go to purchase coffee at the grocery they have a whole isle dedicated to the stuff. Every blend, flavor, brand name and package style begs you to try it. We go to coffee specialty stores from time to time. My last trip there I spent $50 for flavors that sounded more like ice cream names than coffee.

About 4 years ago Debbie and I purchased a coffee maker that cost as much as Dad's first car. This machine grinds your coffee beans then makes your coffee. It has a clock so that you can load the beans before you go to bed and wake up to the aroma of your favorite flavor (that is, if the whine of the grinder does not wake you first). The coffee is deposited in an insulated carafe that keeps it warm for hrs. You can make your coffee at 5 AM and still have a "warm" cup at 4 PM if you wish.

Debbie's friends at QVC talked her into a new coffee maker recently. It is red and chrome colored and Debbie says, "It's so cute!" This one makes coffee one cup at a time. The coffee comes in a container looking more like something creamer comes in when you get it with your coffee at a restaurant. Every cup is perfectly brewed and all you have to worry about is which flavor you want. You can have 3 cups with 3 different flavors.

I'm not sure what the cost is per cup from this new gadget but that doesn't matter. It sure is pretty sitting on the kitchen counter.

Doctor just took me off coffee. Ouch!

Saw your interest in Harding. I have a daughter there now, and I teach for Harding as an adjunct (one class). Great school.
