Okay its not THE Pond - as some call the ocean. And it is not just A Pond - as in smaller than a lake. It is a lake! I enjoy living on it and spending time on my back porch listening to music, gazing at the lake and pondering.

Maverick's 9th Birthday

(If you are reading this on Facebook Notes You will need to go to my actual blog to see the pictures.)

Maverick's ninth birthday was like all his other birthdays - quite a celebration. We celebrated on the actual day December 3rd. And then we celebrated with a party today.

I suppose all kids today have THEMES for their parties? I don't know that's why I ask. Let me give you some examples. We did not have a good digital camera until 2005 when I began to track such things.

In 2005 Maverick's birthday theme was Dinosaurs. Debbie made a volcanic cake for this occasion. Yellow cake with red food coloring, red hot candies and chocolate icing, then she added plastic figures of dinosaurs and greenery. It was almost like eating a piece of art. Below you can see Maverick was impressed.

2006 was a Cowboy theme. He got the boots, hat, a guitar and a six shooter to make this one complete. The boots, hat, boot cut jeans and western shirt he wore twice. The guitar has not been out of the case much. However I still get shot with the six shooter from time to time (minus caps now).

2007 was a foot ball year. Maverick played football last year so we used that theme for the birthday. He decided that playing football was not for him at least for a while. He loves to watch the Sooners on tv and we have been to a few TU games in Tulsa.

This year? Star Wars. He got light sabers, star war games, star wars legos, star war movies and cake over the last month.

When I was a kid I had the same theme each year - BIRTHDAY. And we had to walk to the parties. Both ways were uphill and in the snow.

Happy Birthday, Maverick!

When I was a kid I had a light saber too shapped like a stick! Come to think of it, I had a light saber before there was even a "Star Wars"!

And by the way ... the "stick" is in the National Toy Hall of Fame? Check it out: http://www.strongmuseum.org/NTHoF/inductees.html
