Okay its not THE Pond - as some call the ocean. And it is not just A Pond - as in smaller than a lake. It is a lake! I enjoy living on it and spending time on my back porch listening to music, gazing at the lake and pondering.

Mother Nature's Tricks

Springtime in Oklahoma puts Mother Nature into a real conflict with herself and she does strange things.

Thursday the temperature rose to 87 on the pond. It was a wonderfully warm day and seemingly a great evening for baseball. Maverick’s second game was scheduled and I was excited When I got home I put on a long sleeved t-shirt because I know it is Oklahoma and after the sun goes down, in the spring, the temperature will most likely drop a bit. I put a long sleeved t-shirt under Maverick’s baseball shirt as well. So, I thought I had us well prepared. It was windy which is normal for Oklahoma (where the wind comes sweeping down the plain).

As we loaded up the Element with equipment I thought to myself, “Self, wow it feels nice out here! Not so humid as 45 minutes ago when I got home! This will be a great evening for ball!” As we drove to the ballpark I could feel the wind trying to push our boxy shaped vehicle around and noticed from the bushes and trees the wind had shifted and was coming from the north. “Uh oh,” I thought to myself, “This could be a bit cooler than I have anticipated.”

By the time we got to the park, unloaded the equipment and joined up with the team the temperature was in the 70’s and the wind was a blowing. The boys were throwing the ball and hitting the ball as they warmed up and so the weather was really okay and the wind was a blowing. After we were through with the warm up we gathered our bags and headed to watch the game before us finish and the wind was a blowing. By this time my guess is the temperatures were in the 60’s and the wind was a blowing.

As we waited for the game before us end I could not concentrate on the game. I was cold and mad at myself for not paying more attention to Mother Nature. I was not alone. There were people in shorts, tank tops, and flip-flops watching this game. But we all had one thing in common – our noses, hands and cheeks were red.

By the time our game began we were excited and the boys were moving and I was helping coach and I did not really notice the cold too much. The Outlaws lost to the team who won their division last year but they played them pretty good! And the wind was a blowing.

Maverick is now batting .500 but got his bat on the ball and played some good defense in left field. But this blog is about weather. After the game ended I realized I could not feel my nose. And the wind was a blowing.

Coach Evans called a team meeting after the game outside the gate. I do not recall what the meeting was about. I was trying to find my nose and ears as I could not feel them. And the wind was a blowing. When the meeting was over I raced Maverick to the Element to warm up.

By the time we got home and cleaned up it was 10 o’clock and the weatherman said it was in the low 50’s and the wind was a blowing.

Today we are in a tournament - 1st game at 9AM. The temperature is supposed to be in the low 50’s. We will be wearing long overalls and looking like the Michelin Man for this game. So, it will probably be sunny and 80 degrees by 10AM.

We went down to the lake (Lake MIchigan) over the weekend since it was SO sunny and beautiful out here in the burbs. We almost ended up sharing the fate of the Donner party. It was COLD and WINDY and MISERABLE. The litle robins in my front yard look very confused. Everyone thinks that it should be SPRING. Susie (Trisha's parole officer)
