Okay its not THE Pond - as some call the ocean. And it is not just A Pond - as in smaller than a lake. It is a lake! I enjoy living on it and spending time on my back porch listening to music, gazing at the lake and pondering.

The First Weekend of Fall

I am glad to live in Oklahoma for a lot of reasons. When it comes to the year's seasons it is because we do have temperatures and weather associated to them all. Fall rolled in this past week but we will get the first of our Fall-like weather this week, if you believe the forecasts.

The Saturday chores of this first weekend of Fall felt much like a first weekend in Spring. In the Spring, there are old dead leaves, and some weeds that were too stuborn to die during the Winter that you have to battle to get the yard back in shape. Some of Saturday's yard work had been put off for a few weeks because of the very hot temperatures of late Summer. While I had mowed there was weed whacking which needed to be done on the back of the lot, on the rocks which I had put off because of other reasons like the Eagles concert, BOK Center grand opening, Ms Senior Oklahoma contest, Maverick's Fall baseball schedule, and football games needing to be watched. So, I spent about 4 hrs Saturday trying to beat back the wild from around my piece of the pond.

We had our annual Home Owners Association meeting last weekend and we all came to agreement that in the past 7 years (since the neighborhood was developed) nature has established her foothold again. Trees are maturing and coming up on lots that had once been cleared. Weeds, too, are growing tall. If we do not knock them down again our view of the pond will be blocked. It is a delicate task. We need to keep the root systems of these plants so that hillside does not slide into the pond on some rainy weekend taking the neighborhood with it.

So, I labored hard yesterday and when I finished I sat on the back porch, looked at what I had done and said, "It is good." I tried not to think about the fact I will have to do this again in a few days. The average first freeze in Oklahoma is around election day. Until then I have a few more battles to wage.

I cooled off, took a shower and spend the rest of the afternoon dozing on the couch and looking out the window at the beauty. I have decided one thing as I nurse some aching ligaments....I am not as young as I used to be.

dSounds like a great day.
I love Fall.
I love the smell.
I love the trees as they change color.
I love friday night football games. High School Football, College and yes the Dallas Cowboys on Sundays.
I love taking my kids tricker treating.
I love the temperature.
If it would stay 50 60 degrees all year round that would be great.
I think fall is a season of building memories. Carving pumpkins, trick or treating, cool morning walks with your wife. Riding bikes with your boys.
Thank you for sharing this with us Robb.
I enjoy reading your blog.
It is encouraging, challenging and fun.
Keep up the great work you do.
I look forward to your next post.
Until then, I hope you and your family have wonderful weekend. God bless you in all you do.
