Okay its not THE Pond - as some call the ocean. And it is not just A Pond - as in smaller than a lake. It is a lake! I enjoy living on it and spending time on my back porch listening to music, gazing at the lake and pondering.

Firehouse Breakfasts

Several years ago a volunteer fire department in Osage county began serving a fund raising breakfast on the 1st Saturday of each month. The Country Corner Fire Dept will roll their trucks out of the garage, set up tables and chairs and cook THE most delicious scrambled eggs, pancakes, biscuits, sausage and sausage gravy I have had in a very long time. In the spring and summer the garage doors are up and you can see the meadows around the garage. In the winter the smell of the food cooking permeates the building. This fund raising activity has actually made this group one of the best funded and well trained rural volunteer fire fighting groups in the state. I don't make it there every month but it is not from the lack of trying. It is a good cause and a wonderful breakfast.

My two good friends, Royce and Craig, and I meet there most months and enjoy an hour of solving problems in the world of sports, politics, religion, entertainment and personal relationships. We are experts in these matters because we have all have played horseshoes, voted, attended church, gone to a few concerts, and - between us - been married more times and longer than many folks you know.

Our wives and Maverick joined us a few times and loved the food but I think they could just not get used to eating in a garage. And they could have been intimidated by the expert opinions we guys express over the fore said subjects.

If you are ever wanting something to do on the 1st Saturday morning of any given month you are invited to join us at 8am at the Country Corner Fire Station between Skiatook and Sperry. You'll love the $5 breakfast and be impressed at what you learn from us wise guys.
