Debbie, Maverick and I have spent many hours in front of the TV watching the Olympics. As all Americans we have cheered Poseidon's child, Michael Phelps. As I am writing this he has just won his 7th gold medal in the 100 meter Butterfly (by .01 of a second). This of course ties Mark Spitz's record of 36 years ago. Wow! 1972 seems like only yesterday!
The opening ceremony was pretty incredible. The use of the LED pad that was rolled out as the ceremony progressed was amazing. China has certainly set a pretty high mark in terms production.
Next week will be the track and field events. That is one of my favorites because it reminds me of myself. I set pretty good times sprinting from the couch to the refrigerator. Sometime I have to hurdle Maverick if we are racing for the last Oreo cookie. And sometimes a long jump is involved if Sam (our cat) happens to be in the way.
Wrestling is one Maverick's and my favorite events. He and I tangle quite a bit on the living room floor. I figure I have another year or so before I have to give up because he will be able to whip me.
We have played some volleyball in the living room too. Ours is played using a balloon. He has had 3 balloons. He drew his face on one, Granny's on one, and mine on the 3rd. On Debbie's and his he drew a full head of hair. On mine he put little dots to represent my hair. Kids can be brutally honest. But I will get him back. Tonight, after he goes to sleep, I'll eat the last Oreo.
