Okay its not THE Pond - as some call the ocean. And it is not just A Pond - as in smaller than a lake. It is a lake! I enjoy living on it and spending time on my back porch listening to music, gazing at the lake and pondering.

The Day KSCowboy Rode Into Skiatook

On Tuesday I took a half day of vacation. I had a task to get completed at the house - I needed a nap because I have been up too late blogging these past days. I got my 20 minute power nap completed and had just sat down to eat my lunch when the doorbell rang. It was the KSCowboy! I think he was as surprised to see me as I was to see him.

Cousin Dennis has not always been a Kansas Cowboy. This photo here was taken when he was a Texas cowboy. It was taken one summer when he came through Oklahoma (1970) on his way to Bentonville to visit family there. He begged me to go with him (I am pretty sure that was because he knew I was a ladies magnet) so I did go along for a week or so. Cousin Linda spent a lot of time with us during this time. She and I spent a lot of time sitting in this truck while he was in various phone booths (this was way before cell phones – long distance was not cheap back then – so it must have been love) talking to a person that would be his future warden. Linda and I really never had the opportunity to warn the future warden of the work ahead of her – I guess we never suspected he could actually win her heart.

We spent a lot of time driving around, Linda, Dennis and I. I believe now that he was just lost. Gasoline was a whopping $0.30 a gallon and he being from oil rich Texas must have been wealthy. He wore cowboy boots, hat and shirts. I wore sandals and tie-dyed T-shirts. The cowboy carried rope in the back of this truck which he used to threaten to tie me to trees and or make me get out and walk. I believe today he and I might be a story on CNN.com.

But…I digress

PONDERING SOME COWBOY LOGIC

I am not sure why he was surprised to see me Tuesday. Just why does one ring the doorbell?

He invited me to come see him and the warden in Kansas. He said he had discovered the road was the same distance that direction as it was this direction.

He told me he had a hamburger for lunch which caused me to think of his blog of March 2nd.

He came all the way out to see me but did not have time to come into the house and visit.

MAYBE HE WILL COME AGAIN

It was great to see the Kansas cowboy! Next time he is by I would really like him to stay awhile - sit on the porch, have a lemonade and visit. To help make that happen I have some rope in the garage and a landline phone on the porch.

If I sit and visit your neighbors might think I like you!

BTW it was 1970 and there is WAY more to that story!

Okay. I fixed the date. Yes, there is more to the story. But I didn't want to get you in trouble.

I remember that picture of you guys and "Matilda" (Dennis's truck). I took it in front of our house in Bentonville. I had to get proof that you guys existed! From the stories (all true) that I told people, they sometimes thought I made you guys up!
